Getting to Islay

Ferry

Caledonian MacBrayne run daily ferries from Kennacraig Ferry Terminal on the mainland to both of Islay's main ports: Port Ellen and Port Askaig. Ferries also operate from Port Askaig to Colonsay and Oban. Crossing times and booking are available through the Caledonian MacBrayne website. If you are taking a car on board the ferry, you are strongly advised to book ahead, and you must arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time to guarantee a space on board.

Travelling to Kennacraig by Car

From Glasgow, head north on the A82 towards Loch Lomond. Turn left on to the A83 at Tarbet, and continue through Arrochar, Inverary, Lochgilphead and Tarbert. Kennacraig is past Tarbert on the right, and is clearly signposted.

 

Travelling to Kennacraig by Bus

West Coast Motors and Citylink run a regular service (number 926) between Buchanan Bus Station and Campbelltown, which stops at Kennacraig. Buses are timed to coincide with ferry departures and arrivals. It is strongly recommended that you reserve seats in advance, since buses are frequently fully booked.

Air

Flybe in conjunction with Loganair operate daily flights between Glasgow International Airport and Islay Airport. There are usually two flights in each direction per day on weekdays and one flight in each direction per day at weekends.
